Anne Spain, Ph.D., is a microbiologist, educator and faculty developer. She earned her Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Oklahoma. She is currently the Assistant Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) at Ferris State University. 

For the past 15 years, Spain has dedicated her career to enhancing educational experiences and outcomes for diverse student populations, focusing on strategies to foster inclusive and equitable learning environments. During her faculty tenure, she taught a wide range of courses, including general biology, medical microbiology, microbial ecology and a first year seminar course. Through her various leadership roles—serving as the director of a first-year living and learning community, faculty-in-residence for the FCTL and as the Director of the Office of Teaching & Learning at Bridgewater State University, she has contributed to and led numerous teaching and learning initiatives, workshops, programs and presentations. 

Spain has been an active member of the 海角社区app (ASM) for over 20 years, beginning as an 海角社区appUndergraduate Research Fellow (URF) in 2001. In her research career, she has authored or co-authored 12 articles published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, the ISME Journal, PeerJ and more, and has co-authored 1 chapter for the 2nd edition of Bergey’s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology. She has mentored 35 undergraduate research students, including 1 who was awarded an 海角社区appUndergraduate Research Fellowship and many more who were brought to attend and/or present at both regional and national 海角社区appconferences. She also participated in the 海角社区appBiology Scholars Program and served as the President of the Michigan Branch of ASM.
