University of Chicago

Kelly Bachta, M.D., Ph.D., earned her degrees from the University of Chicago studying Yersinia pathogenesis with Olaf Schneewind, M.D., Ph.D. She subsequently completed internal medicine training at University of Washington in Seattle and an infectious disease fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Following a postdoctoral fellowship with Alan Hauser, M.D., Ph.D., she opened the Bachta Laboratory in the fall of 2020 at Northwestern University.

Her laboratory uses cutting-edge techniques, such as bacterial barcoding and transposon insertion sequencing, to investigate infection dynamics and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In addition, she continues to see patients as an infectious disease consultant. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Chicagoland and is an avid Maryland Terrapins and Chicago Bears sports fan.
