Pamela Brown, Ph.D.

Pamela Brown, Ph.D., is the Director of Undergraduate Research in the Division of Biological Sciences and STEM faculty fellow in the Honors College at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Brown is a longtime member of ASM, first joining as an undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut, where her interests in microbiology led her to pursue a graduate degree in microbiology at the University of Georgia. Brown then joined the Brun Lab at Indiana University, where she explored bacterial growth patterning and morphology within the Alphaproteobacteria.
Brown is currently an associate professor at the University of Missouri (MU). She has continued to expand our understanding of growth patterning in bacteria, with a current focus on the mechanisms underlying polar growth of Agrobacterium tumefaciens. As an instructor, Brown is focused on developing inclusive teaching strategies in her courses and is especially excited about the recent implementation of the Tiny Earth Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences that are now available to MU undergraduate students.
Beyond her work at MU, Brown is the mom of 4 young children and spends lots of time playing cards, board and video games, cheering at swim meets and basketball games and is thankful for each good night of sleep.
