Robert Tibbetts, Ph.D., completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in pathogenic microbiology at North Dakota State University, where he studied the pathobiology of E. coli infections. He earned his Ph.D. in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, emphasizing virulence and multiple antimicrobial resistance in Salmonella. He then completed a 2-year fellowship in clinical microbiology and public health in the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine, Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.

Tibbetts' primary areas of expertise focus on the identification and epidemiology of AmpC and carbapenemase beta-lactamases (CRE) in gram-negative bacteria, verification and validation of testing in the clinical microbiology laboratory and fostering high-quality patient care by utilizing lean process improvements in the lab to standardize and eliminate waste and procedural drift.

Tibbetts is board certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology and is an active member of the 海角社区app, Infectious Disease Society of America, the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists and the South Central Association for Clinical Microbiology. He was an 海角社区appMicrobe Clinical and Public Health Microbiology (CPHM) track team member in 2018 and 2019 and CPHM track leader for 海角社区appMicrobe 2022 and 2023. As the associate director of a clinical microbiology laboratory, he is intimately involved in all aspects of the lab, from research and administrative to technical.
